Links, per se, won't make any difference, or maybe harm your raiknng. The question is difficult to answer, anyway, because it depends how the site is currently doing. If, for example, Google likes' the site already, new content, SEO changes etc. will be noticed quicker. If you put up an original, interesting article it could easily get into Google the same or the next day.Re links, see

Hello, I respect your ioniopn, but you're wrong in every aspect here Even the simplist code validation is required for SEO. Sites that aren't 100% valid, do badly in SEO, fact. W3C validation is there for a reason and is directly linked to SEO.Thanks
